Young dropped from United squad to face Arsenal as winger's career takes a dive
Ashley Young has been left out of Manchester United's squad for Sunday's fixture against Arsenal as his career continues to plummet. The winger, who arrived from Aston Villa for £15million in 2011, has seen both his recent form and theatrical diving heavily criticised.
David Moyes, despite fining Phil Neville for diving while the two were at Everton, on Thursday publicly defended Young for the fall in which he won United's penalty away to Real Sociedad but he is privately said to be angry at his conduct.
On his knees: Manchester United winger Ashley Young has been dropped from the squad to face Arsenal
At Euro 2012 he was a regular for England but since then, after a disappointing season and the emergence of the talented Adnan Januzaj, he seems as much a part of United's future as he did when fighting relegation with Watford in 2006.
The development caps one of the worst weeks of Young's career, one in which it was also revealed he is to stand trial for speeding, having allegedly been caught travelling at 70mph in a 50mph zone on March 7.
Conflict? Manager David Moyes (left) as dropped Young from what is United's biggest fixture of the season so far
Young
appeared to be one of England's most promising wingers during his time
at Aston Villa. Since joining United, however - and it should not be
forgotten Sir Alex Ferguson beat off competition for him from Liverpool -
he has been a significant disappointment.
The confidence with which he used to convincingly beat opposing defenders has vanished, his
World Cup hopes appear slim at best and if, as expected, United do look to sell him, it is difficult to predict who would be interested in taking him.
