Bale floored by flu... City and Monaco target Di Maria gets chance to impress in cup

Gareth Bale will miss Real Madrid’s cup game on Saturday night away to third division Olympic Xàtiva with the flu.
His absence opens the way for Angel Di Maria to take centre stage following stories linking him with a move to Monaco in January.
The Argentine is unhappy at losing his place in the team in a World Cup year to Real’s record signing Bale.

The Welshman has scored four goals in his last two games filling the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, who is fit again but also misses tonight’s game through suspension having been sent off in last season’s Cup Final defeat.
Di Maria will ask to be allowed to join Monaco for £30m when the transfer window opens if he does not receive assurances that he is going to play more.
Tonight he starts on Olympic Xàtiva’s plastic pitch in the first leg of the last-16 cup game.
