Draxler rules out January Arsenal move to concentrate on nailing World Cup berth
Julian Draxler has ruled out a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window because he wants to focus on playing regularly for Schalke ahead of the World Cup in Brazil. But the Germany international admitted he had spoken to Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker about the north London club and heard only positive things – opening the door for a potential summer move.
The talented 20-year-old has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for some time, with scouts watching him last season as he scored 10 goals in 30 Bundesliga games from attacking midfield.

‘It’s very important for me to play nearly every game. For my club I have the chance to play nearly every game.’
But he added: ‘Every summer I have to look what is the best for me and I will do that in the summer again. We will see what happens.
‘I have always said English teams are very big clubs and Arsenal is of course one of them. I sometimes speak to Mesut or Per about the team and they always have good words and they tell me nice things.

Draxler, who has 14 Germany caps, signed a new deal at his club in May taking him to 2018 but Wenger was still reportedly considering a bid in August before baulking at the astonishing £60million asking price set by Schalke general manager Horst Heldt.
If substantial negotiations are on the table then Draxler, who graduated from the same school in Gelsenkirchen as Ozil, would clearly be open to a move.
